Vijaya earned her PhD in Biotechnology from Singhania University and All India Institute of Medical Sciences, India in 2017. Her doctorate studies mainly focused on exploring plant-derived natural compounds as potential antitumor agents. She joined Vanderbilt University as postdoctoral fellow in 2019. Her postdoctoral research involved the identification of novel synergistic drug combinations to treat melanoma and breast cancer, and gaining mechanistic insight into their activity on tumor cells and the tumor microenvironment. She also investigated the mechanisms underlying drug-induced immunogenicity to develop novel approaches for augmenting immunotherapy through rational combinations. She continued her postdoctoral research in drug and immunotherapy combinations at the Ohio State University, where she also earned a Pelotonia Postdoctoral Fellowship Award (2021-2023). She joined the Wilson Lab in March 2023 as a Research Assistant Professor to conduct research focused on developing approaches for efficient delivery of drugs and/or immunotherapies using nanotechnologies to enhance anti-tumor immunity and vaccines for viral infections.
