Our Laboratory

Located in the historic Goessmann Laboratory (named after UMass Professor, Charles Antony Goessmann), the Abdelrahman lab is housed on the first two floors. Graduate students are furnished with their own work-space in an office separate from the experimental rooms.

Reactors

The Eliminator

This Vapor phase packed-bed reactor works as vapor  reactor system with controllable temperature and partial pressures

The Hydrogenator

This equipment is a vapor phase packed bed reactor with capabilities to control its temperature and flow rates externally

The Operando

Temperature controlled transmission IR cell. Capable of above ambient pressure and vacuum studies.

The Electrolyzer

Gas tight EChem reactor provides a reactor space for electrochemical reactions; chemical composition of the evolving gases is sampled in an online gas chromatograph.

The PBR

Utilizing a GC oven for temperature control, this unit allows for vapor doping of solid catalysts.

The Microcatalytic
(Prometheus)

Fully automated and remotely controlled microcatalytic reactor housed within the inlet liner of an Agilent 7890A GC equipped with an ALS for automated reactant delivery and a QCD/FID for calibration free quantification

The Polymerizer

Stirred batch reactor for high pressure polymerization

FT-IR

Bruker Tensor II equipped with a transmission cell and DTGS detector

Reactive Gas Chromatography

Inlet Microcatalytic reactor, Agilent 7890B. Measures reactant coverages over catalyst samples, aided by a GC-FID. For catalyst treatment, reaction, and product analysis.

TGA

SDT Q600, TA Instruments. Provides in situ data on sample weight changes with respect to programmed temperature control and reactive gas feed.
